But like many rockabillies, his horse jumped the track and carried him away from the finish line and glory, in another direction. Kirkland was one of the pioneers of rock’n’roll in the country music clubs of Detroit, and finger picked a mean, swingin’ guitar in local country groups during the 1960s.
