VARIOUS ARTISTS The Compl. 'D' Singles Vol 1 BCD15832DI £75.00

» zurück zur Startseite D-Records Serie 'D' Records was one of the great independant labels. Founded by Houston-based record producer 'Pappy' Daily in 1958, it captured a cross-section of East Texas music from the 1950s until the 1970s. Among the artists who recorded for the label were Willie Nelson, The Big Bopper, Claude Gray, James O'Gwynn, Eddie Noack, Bill Mack, Herb Remington, Link Davis, Tibby Edwards, Benny Barnes, Ray Campi, Floyd Tillman, George Jones, and George Strait. Many fabulous but little-known honkey tonkers and Rock 'n' Rollers recorded for 'D' as well. Its catalogue is a great undiscovered treasure. Our box sets offer a complete chronological history of the single releases accompanied by a profusely illustrated book with many rare photos and biographies of all the artists. "This fine set has the usual high standard booklet with facsimiles of labels and artist information by Kevin Coffey, plus the expected complement of pictures. Country historians will require this; lovers of 'real' country music will cherish it." Now Dig This, April 2000 "These sets are indispensable for the '50s and '60s country music enthusiast. With 113 songs on Volume 4 and 121 on Volume 5, you can afford to find a few tracks that are not up to your likening and still find dozens that are. Great releases!" Now Dig This, October 2002 "For the most part, however, this is an educational experience. Put on the CD, open the booklet (with informative, song-by-song liner notes by Kevin Coffey), and read as you listen. It takes you deeper into the world behind the songs and the artists, helping paint a fuller picture of the music in context of its time and place. And the more time you spend, the better the songs start to sound. The voices and the writing of the D artists may not always shine, but they're pretty fascinating to hear nonetheless. You may soon find yourself enraptured by oddballs such as Jack Newman's Ship For A Lonely Men, Nick Williams' Johnny Horton tribute Springtime In Heaven, Danny Reeves' wacky Bell Hop Blues, or Red River Dave's one-of-a-kind love song Moon Over The Wall (In East Berlin). And that's exactly the beauty of collections such as these.
